This is little Madi… i think she is me in a little bitty body- She belongs to our friends Chris and Jada and she just had a birthday! for her birthday i decided that i would style her and give her a photo session- i don’t do this all of the time, but she is a great sport and LOVES getting all dressed up… so i thought it would be a blast- & it was!! I have photographerd Madi before, so i knew that she would be natural- so we headed out to some of her favorite spots and soaked in the German beauty!I am going to add a personal style option to each session soon. for a small fee i will show up 30 minutes early and pick out you and your family’s clothes! Inspired by the “Let me style your kiddo” special and all the mom’s who sent me links and pictures of their potential outfits with questions and thoughts… i thought that i would put together a what to wear post- People ask me all the time what their family should wear- i know that it can be difficult- check out the post that you really like- look at the clothes… it doesn’t look great by chance- people put thought into their clothes, your pictures will be so much more impactful with thoughtful selections!
i will turn this into a really cool downloadable package, but for now… this is what you get!!
what to wear?
- layers… layers are GREAT!! undershirts, jackets, tights, leggings… layer it up!
- your favorite colors (unless they happen to be flourescent) don’t ask me what they are… think about it… what is in your home… what is in your closet… pick those colors and coordinate your family!!
- accesories… I LOVE THEM!! scarves, hats, gloves, tights, jewelry, glasses, purses | it might seem crazy… but it looks great- open up some of your favorite magazine and look at the models check out their accesories!!
- patterns… believe it or not they can look GREAT in photos- now, don’t everyone go get a plaid shirt- but throw in some polka dots, wear some stripes- mix it up!!
- great shoes! i can’t say enough (my closet speaks for itself) shoes can make you or break you! look good in heals, but they kill your feet? grin and bear it… you will be glad you did!!
- joy… it shows i promise! if you love your family… SHOW IT!! there is nothing wrong with affection, and nothing wrong with having fun!! So, you are at a photo shoot, and your family are the stars… ENJOY IT!!
what NOT to wear?
- t-shirts… as in, “i got this for signing up for a credit card.” you have hired a photographer and are serious about investing in family heirlooms… so invest in the clothing too… you will be so glad you ironed that shirt!! i know, i know… some tshirts are cool- just leave the BUD LIGHT one at home… ok?
- the SAME clothes (unless you are twins) this is precious when you are toddlers… but NOT THE WHOLE FAMILY!! you guys are unique independent folks- so express that with your clothes! As long as you guys are in the same color family- it will look great!
- that same pose… you know, the same one you always do when someone with a camera is in front of you… stop that!! i love to let the session flow, but will direct a little here and there- so listen to the photographer and do what she asks- she sees what looks best and will capture the most flattering angles, IF YOU STEP AWAY FROM “THAT” POSE!!
- cartooned clothing…parents don’t get mad… spider man and sponge bob have enough things with their faces on them- they don’t need to be in your pictures!! even if it is bobby’s favorite shirt… take him to the store and let him pick out new favorite that is “special for pictures” so that by the time it is picture time he feels like a king in his new favorite!
what to bring?
- everything… as in, confused? throw it in the bag… or just add the personal style to your session and i will load it all up for you! packing a bag makes selections easy and accidents NO BIG DEAL! so, throw it in the trunk and i will throw it together myself!!
- chapstick… sounds silly, but everybody needs it (little ones too) !! chapped lips are pretty tricky to make look all pretty in photoshop!
