CRASHcourse FAQ
if i don’t answer the question that you have here… please leave me a comment, or email me and i will add it- thanks!
i get lots and lots of questions via email and phone calls about these classes so i thought i would share the answers here… so, here we go!!
- where do i sign up for a CRASHcourse? you head to my online store… here is the link you need!
- what CRASHcourse should i start with? salsa! if you are just beginning, salsa is the class for you. it is an entire semester of the technical aspects of photography and it is infused with creativity… it is a lot of fun!!
- what is the second CRASHcourse? kicked up is the second class and is a lot more creative exploration and alternative methods… FUN-NESS!!
- do i need a fancy camera? well, i am going to be diving into the heart of the technical aspects of photography and teaching you to shoot in manual- so, you won’t get the full benefit if you don’t have a slr or dslr… but there have been lots of people who have grabbed their point and shoots and CRASHed in and loved it… so, that is up to you!!
- is there a particular camera that you recommend? check out this post for that question!
- you say, NOT FOR PROS, if i’m just starting out, does that mean me? yep. that’s you. if you make money taking pictures, whether you qualify for the pro category doesn’t matter… it really changes the dynamics of the class. it’s not that i have anything against you wanting to grow… I FULLY SUPPORT THAT… it’s that these classes are for everyday people who really want to dive into a hobby that they enjoy- and without knowing it your knowledge base can be intimidating. i want everyone one to be on the same field- it’s more fun that way.
- just to clarify, if i’m thinking about starting a photography business, does that mean i can’t come? this is where integrity steps in, i don’t know your heart, or your intentions… but i will say this, there have been people who have taken my classes with the underlying intention of profiting off of photography- and again, the class shifts when that happens- during sign up you have to agree that you aren’t a pro, this is where the choice is made to clarify, or mislead- there are times when exceptions are made, i just always like to be the one to determine that for the sake of the class and to make sure that the class you are signing up for is the best fit for your needs. you may want to save a little cash by taking the non-PRO classes, but you will be missing out on a ton of information about shooting for business by not being up front… so when in doubt, give me a call, or shoot me an email!
- if i’m a PRO or on my way to being one, are there classes for me? absolutely, there are lunch consults (CRASHmyLUNCH) half days, (halfCRASH), and full days (CRASHintoMYBIZ) these classes are customized to meet your specific needs, and i’m an open book- so you ask, i’ll tell

- other photographers don’t teach local photographers, do you? umm… that might be weird. if you are local, and in business then we should keep our secrets to ourselves, right? not that we have secrets
the way i see this, is that we all have unique gifts, ideas, perspectives, and products to offer our clients, if we all look the same what is the point? so, in an effort to keep it creative, i don’t teach local photographers. - but their are local photographers that you’ve trained, right? there are a few folks that have ventured into photography after taking my CRASHcourses, but only one person actually took my business class, and i lived in germany then, so she wasn’t local… and she double checked beforehand
there has been some confusion about this, but you know now what the deal is! - do we actually shoot at the CRASHcourses? for sure! the first half of the day is spent getting learned… and the second half is applying what you learned… it’s a lot of fun!
- do you shoot, i mean, do we get to see how you shoot? no doubt… i shoot a little and teach a lot, i’ll be over your shoulder peakin’ at your screen and discussing what we see.
- how long to the CRASHcourses usually last? the non-BIZ classes are usually from 9-5 unless otherwise stated. we break for an hour at lunch.
- are my meals included? no, unless it is stated in the description – but we usually keep it pretty quick and simple, so bring a little cash to cover your munchies.
- what do i need to bring? comfy shoes & clothes, umbrella, water bottle, OH, and YOUR CAMERA & GEAR!! if you are coming to the photoshop class you can bring your laptop!
well, that was a mouthful! i’m sure i forgot some things, so be sure and leave me a comment and i’ll update the post as needed- and please hear my heart,
these classes began as an outlet for all of the people in my life who would say over and over, “i’m not creative, but i love photography…” i want to teach my clients, friends, strangers, & neighbors how to express creativity- these classes are not so that you don’t need a photographer- heck, i still hire a photographer! there are so that you can document your life, excellently, creatively- and fully enjoy the beauty that you’re life holds- and they aren’t meant to be exclusive… so all of you who are just starting out in business, or thinking about it, don’t be discouraged because the regular classes aren’t for you- that is partly so that you will consider the investment that business requires- you will find soon how important it is to be profitable with your time- we have all learned that lesson (and i’m still learning!!) and the other part of it is that i have done this for almost 10 years, and i would really love to share with you all that i’ve learned. the good and the bad, what has worked and what hasn’t- i hopes to save you a lot of time, and A LOT of beans!!
i always look forward to these classes, each one is full of surprises, if you are still up for it, sign up today!! i can’t wait to meet you and pursue this creative journey along side you!!
